Firefighter of the Month: August 2017

Congratulations to Firefighter Jeff Chapman for being selected as Firefighter of the Month for August 2017! Here is Jeff’s bio from in his own words. Born and raised in Bath, NY of Western New York (Not the city!). From 2012-2016 attended and graduated from Keuka College with Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences. In 2014 Began volunteering with Bath Ambulance Corps. where volunteering as a first responder first sunk its teeth in which led me to become a NYS EMT-B. Soon after I joined Bath Volunteer Fire Department where my love for the fire service truly began. Volunteering is very much alive up north. My first fire class was in 2016 where I was a member of the New York State Academy of Fire Science Firefighter I “Last Class.” In September of 2016 I moved to Florence, SC where I worked as an EMT-B with Florence County EMS. I quickly joined Howe Springs Fire Dept. to help serve the community here.  Since joining Howe Springs I have gained family and taken many classes from Pump and Aerial Ops to PICO. I have even joined the Technical Rescue Team of Howe Springs. I now work for West Florence Fire Department full time and still work as much as possible with Florence County EMS. I attempt to make every training possible and look forward to getting further into Technical Rescue thru classes. I only have a couple years in the fire service but I learn as much as possible from those around me with experience from Chiefs to my peer firefighters. Growing up as an athlete playing soccer and Lacrosse I loved how the principals of being on a team transferred to the fire service. I love the team work, comradery, and most of all coming together and helping out my community when they need us the most. I hope I can continue to learn every day and to help Howe Springs in every way possible as it is an amazing department to be a part of.

Thank you for your commitment to the fire service and the citizens of Howe Springs Fire Department.
